It is much easier to reduce a wild turkey to its least common denominator (soup) than a tame one? It comes off the bones so very neatly...
You can put homemade Italian seasoning on just about anything (except ice cream) and not go wrong? (And yes, that does include wild turkey) (Recipe 2T dried oregano, 2T dried marjoram, 1Tdried thyme, 1T dried basil..double as needed)
That you should not try to build a large wood fire when you are stupid with sickness. You might get too close to the stove door and melt your forelock.....dang it...my hair smells like the permanents my aunts used to give each other (and me if they could catch me) in my grandma's kitchen...with a little soupcon of dehorning calves thrown in.
Did you know that it has been raining here? I have my barn wheelbarrow out in the yard and it has been half full....twice...in the past week. That is a lotta rain...the river in the story runs right past us....who knew that you could close a river?
When you have a terrestrial ecology project due that requires pressed, dried upland plants (supposed to be pressed for 6 days minimum) and yet you and your team mates view procrastination as a viable alternative to getting 'er done on time, you can dry your plant specimens under the forced air hand driers in the men's room. People will look at you funny, but you CAN do it. (Not to mention the ones done that way turn out better than those pressed in the proper manner.)

Now that is the truth! Just great!
i hope everyone's feeling better, there are many cases of the swine flu in the area schools...i know of several.
thanks for the recipe, but i doubt if i'll ever have the wild turkey to put it on :)
glad the dried plant thing worked out well...but shame on them for waiting..(like we all haven't done it at some pt.!)
i hate this rain..imagine if it were snow! Nor'easter i suppose!...yuk,yuk,yuk! it's only nice if you're a kid wanting a snow day...especially if you've procrastinated on a project!
sending you warm wishes for a speedy recovery...it's an awlful way to get your vacation time used up, isn't it????? lol
Hopefully this finds you all feeling better. And I'll take your word on the wild turkey... I've had it once. And that was enough.
Doesn't surprise me about the drying thing... very comical though. :)
We've had more than our fair share of rain here also... I think we got 2" or more yesterday alone...
PS. I don't know if you've tried this, but it does help when your sick, under stress, run down... all of the above. :)

I hope you're feeling better!
Italian dressing is one of my favorite seasonings - I use it on everything.
Have a great Halloween.
for what it's worth.....another flu remedy...it was told to me, i haven't tried it, but here it is...
oscillococcinum..it's sold OTC, and box says it reduces duration and severity of flu symptoms...no side effects, no drug interactions, non-drowsy..it's a homeopathic medicine...
Yeah, it's been one very wet October! The Mohawk and Erie Canal are running bank full every time I drive past 'em.
I usually just singe the hairs of the hands and forearms. With my beard I keep my face as far from the flames as possible. Still, there was that time when I was burning slash in a huge pile out back....
Never tried that method of drying herb/plant/leaf specimens. Quite inventive.
Stay warm and dry. Feel better.
Hang in there!
Hey I got you beat on the forelock thing - I burned my bangs, and singed a hole in my down vest, adding the smell of burnt feathers to the mix!
Hope you're on the mend so you can get to work on that ark!
I burned off my eyebrows and eyelashes and my bangs once. Darn scary...took a long time for everything to grow back!
Hope you are feeling better.

Thanks for recipe I'm going to make some up this afternoon!!!
I'm sure some day I will want to know these. Thanks for making them easy to remember with your charming wit.
Ditto JB Hang in there! I did know that Italian seasoning goes with anything...........especially if you're sick. What I didn't know was the forelock thing ;) Give yourself and Liz a hug if you're up to it.
Lisa, thanks
Anon, I am improving pretty quickly. Liz is still pretty sick. Thanks for the kind thoughts!
Sara, I am a lot better, thank you. I didn't like wild turkey much at first, but I am getting better at cooking it. It sure makes good soup!
And thanks for the Vitamin C stuff. Looks good!
SC Momma, we do too. We get the Zesty Italian and even put it on pork chops when we grill them. Real good! Thanks for the kind thoughts
anon, thank you. I will look for it
Joated, the boss is having a terrible time just feeding cows and keeping things cleaned up let alone finishing crops. WAY too much rain. And thanks
JB, you too, sounds like you are really having a bad time. Hope it warms up and you get better! Thanks
Nita, the boss is always complaining about our hills...right now I am pretty grateful for them! lol I can't believe I got my hair. I am always so careful and there were no flames or anything...just enough superheated air to do the job.
Linda, I know better...I really, really know better. lol
Jan, glad to be of service. lol
Linda, the Italian seasoning thing is something my kids taught me. I used to buy it, but in light of just how much they like it, I have taken to making it. lol Thanks for the kind thoughts. I am much better...poor Liz isn't.
LOL. I will remember the advice about not tending the stove when I am deliriously ill. I love Italian seasoning. I went through a stage where everything was cooked with garlic salt, onion powder, and Italian seasoning.
Everytime I see the words Wild Turkey I'm thinking whiskey. LOL. Whiskey soup is a funny thought.
Anyway, I'm gonna go watch Caillou with my kids- oh joy- let's make that read a book and cuddle my kids while THEY watch Caillou.
XOXO
Joce
Hmmmm. I have more basil than any six people you know....no marjoram...but I bet I could make a pretty good mix out of my basil and the dried oregano and dried sage. I do have a little container of Greek seasoning that Husband says makes everything taste good...and he's right. Greek, Italian...whatsadiff?
And I did know that about being stupid sick and working around fire. I have permascars from reaching too far into the stove and hitting the edge of the door in the same spot, every time, on my right forearm.
Your kid is to be congratulated on his ingenuity!
The turkey and the rain...I'll take your word for it.
Glad to hear you're feeling better already. Don't knock yourself out too much in this first flush of recovery.
Sorry about your hair but glad you're feeling a little better.
I think it's time to start working on an ark!
Kids crack me up. LOL, I'd love to walk in on someone using the hand driers to do homework! Now that he has it done I'll share this link in case he has to do a similar project in the future.
NOW I know.
Get well soon!
Rebz, D'y'know, there have been times recently when whiskey soup might have really hit the spot! lol
However, the only wild turkeys we have are winged and feathered. Enjoy the book and the kiddy cuddle...they both sound really wonderful
June, Never tried Greek seasoning, but if I see it I will give it a shot. We are great herb lovers here and the older I get the more adventuresome...Sorry to hear about your poor arms. I have a finger I caught between a falling chunk of wood and the stove last month and I think it too is going to be permanently marked. Thanks for the kind thoughts. You take care now.
Apple, I'm glad you got it! A lot of people I told it to just looked at me funny as if to ask so what...me I thought it was hilarious and wish I had video. I can't wait to hear the whole story of last night's coyote hunting trip. And the skunk.
FC, thanks, coming along pretty good, although can't seem to get rid of the dehydration thing.
no, yes, yes, yes, no.
LOL
Steve, you get an A+
