He Thinks Your Duck Call's Sexy

After months, nay years, of annoying us all half to death with turkey calls, Alan has switched to goose calls...and duck calls...(who knew that I could miss those turkey calls so much?)

Anyhow, this afternoon he went out after turkeys. Not seeing any he leaned on a wagon right behind the cow barn. Off and on he heard a little rustling in the brush nearby, but didn't pay much attention.

Practicing those duck calls on the hundreds flying over you know.....

Then something made him glance to the side. And there less than six feet away, staring intently at him, was a six-point buck. I guess it would be hard to say which one of them was more startled. That pesky call might not appeal to me or to duck, but deer...that's a whole nother story.

Too bad the deer season in the southern zone doesn't start until Saturday! LOL!

Now, if you think that duck call would work, your welcome to come up to the Bolt Hole on Friday to practice some more. I'm not having much luck with my Primos buck call.

I love it! One night while I was milking, my 10 yr old daughter was outside howling like a coyote, and then tore into the barn when a couple of them answered her. I said, " Well what did you expect?"
Maybe now I'm the fool. Maybe it wasn't all that it seemed, maybe it was really just deer, LOL!

Joated, thanks for that offer! He had bird shot in his gun and season isn't open so....besides he was so startled, as was the deer, that I wonder if he could have shot if he wanted to. lol

SCMomma, I think he expected to find maybe another buck having a tryst with a doe...Probably not a duck anyhow and certainly not a surprised kid.

Dani, tis indeed, lol

Deb, it was so funny. He is fantastic at turkey calling, but I guess the whole duck thing needs a little work. I like turkey better than duck any how.

anon, that is all I could think of when he was telling the story of his close encounter of the odocoileus kind

Jessika, that is a good story. We used to howl a lot when we were kids, but no coyotes here then. Now you can get an answer sometimes. lol

Lisa, 12-gauge.....loaded with bird shot. rofl

Sara, what a laugh we had over it. He says he was so surprised that he fell right back against the wagon and the deer...the deer peered and peered at him trying to figure out what the heck he was, then calmly strolled away flicking his tail in disgust. Must be he reads the game laws and knows he was still safe. lol

Faithful, I am still grinning. It was so funny

dickiebo, a six point buck, here in the east is a male white-tailed deer with three tines on each antler. In the west a six point has six on a side for a total of twelve. There they have mostly mule deer, which have much larger antlers. Our six point is probably between two and four years old.

That is real hunting, and a very good story. Hope is life is full of the same.

We were having the conversation last night about the points - do you know where the line in the "west" starts? Only one side is counted here...

Thought you were going to tell us you were having duck for Thanksgiving! Maybe stuffed buck instead?

The deer must have wondered why that duck was hollering so much!

You'd have to wonder what was running through the deer's mind just then wouldn't you?!!
