Sunday Stills....History

It was hard to decide which bit of history to post...we are so surrounded by history here in the valley and in this ancient house. I turned mostly to the china closet this time, for things of mine and favorite possessions of my late mother in law.

Here is a blue vase of hers, a souvenir of the 1934 World's Fair

And here is a button from my parent's antique store, which has been closed for years. I was just a little kid when I found it among the assorted stuff piled high on the dusty tables. They let me have it and I have always kept it through many many homes. It is about the size of a quarter.

Mom gave me this

And Dad gave me these

Found this up in the three bay shed

And this old cow bell belonged to the boss's mom too
It rings with a loud and raucous clang
that must have rendered the wearer easy to find on long ago foggy mornings.

For more Sunday Stills...

I miss cow bells, The song of a cow bell on a grassing cow has it's own beat and sound ... very relaxing to hear in the evening. The alarming sound of a cow running with a bell on (something is chasing the cow - let's go find out what it is!)Why don't folks use cow bells any more? - Bill

So much History, make sure you take care of the, esp the blue vase.

Here in New Zealand, I watch a UK TV on antiques. Do you have a similar show?

Dibear, thanks, this was a great challenge

VS, me too, and green, I have a whole bunch of little green bottles that I just love

Bill, I wonder...but I just don't know. I suppose more cows are kept in free stall barns than not and maybe pastures are smaller. There have sure been times when finding a cow would surely have been made easier by a bell.

Tammy, thanks, I love blue glass

TCSL, thanks, it was so gloomy I simply couldn't get a good shot of the bell itself so I settle for a macro of the clapper.

RG, thanks!

Ann, thanks, I love old things and treat them very tenderly...

Brenda, I feel like they still belong to her...this was her house...

HenryG, thanks, I have always loved the button too. I love finding detail in small, surprising places, and never could resist a dragon.
