Cha-cha-changes

What is with people wanting to see what I look like anyhow? I am not thirty any more and will never be again...not forty or fifty either...I sneaked through Sunday Stills last week without too much misery. Then I got the news that my old editor (a nice guy with a great sense of humor...he always came up with cool titles) is my new editor now.

And he wants a new picture to go with the newness of the editorial page. I have soldiered along writing the Farm Side since 1998...lots of wise cracks and parentheses (just because I like 'em) and the same picture of my grinning face....for all those years. And every year I would chortle to myself....hehehe...they haven't made me change my photo yet. I was just thinking that the other week while undergoing the agony of having my picture taken for SS. I guess I laughed a couple days too soon.

I took a bunch yesterday. (I have to send an assortment.) It hurt. Think old. Think weather-beaten old. Grey even. Think weather-beaten, wrinkled-up, grey even, whistling distance of 60 farmer's wife.

Ouch. I was enjoying my fantasy dag nab it! Above is my favorite so far....that really isn't me....really it isn't.....

Never, never underestimate the beauty of an older face. Having lived adds richness to the fading bloom of youth.

I'm with June. I find the faces of farmers who have worked and really lived, the most beautiful in all the world.

I agree, you look great!

You look like a really beautiful person with a big heart and a quick wit. But I sympathize about photos. Most days i feel about 12 years old, and then I see photos of me and wonder, who's that old lady?

Lvely portrait. Don't be so hard on yourself. Would you have not loved your mother or grandmother if they didn't stay 30? Beauty comes from the inside, not the outside. too many forget that, in this world.

I don't see much in the way of frown wrinkles - but a lot of smile lines. There is a kindly soul in that face - one that I'm glad to have "met."

I've always been able to pass for younger with a "baby" face, but those days are pretty well over - seems all the gray hair gives it away!

Love it! (Easy for me to say, I know.) I read wisdom, wit and kindness in that face.

You have a wonderful face. I like what JB says...I'd never thought of that.

Well, I think you are adorable.

Aging naturally is far preferable to cutting, lifting and botax.

I don't see old. I see wise, kind, compassionate and beautiful.
Beauty comes from within and it shows in your eyes.
You're living your life - not trying to cover up the wisdom that comes with age.
And I guarantee if you ask anyone who knows you they will say you're a beautiful woman.
Don't fight it honey - you've got what counts and don't need to look 30 to prove it!

Now that I'm in my 60's (will be 62 in January) I look at the 30 year olds and think how much they need to learn, how much more of life they need to live. We are lucky you and I...we are alive and able to approach life with love and concern AND know when to pick our fights and TO BE ABLE TO FIGHT THEM!

Who you are shines through...kindness, concern and energy. On top of that you are beautiful!

I have been young, I still like seeing young beautiful ladies in less than is perfectly proper - but if I were to be given only one choice, I want to see women that smile up into their eyes and all the way into their heart and are full of love. Yeah, of any age, if they can smile that way and are full of love, they are truly beautiful. Now go back and find that picture... ;-)

Nita, thank you

WW, I know what you mean. In my mind I never got past about thirty. Thanks

JB, good point. Thank you

Jeffro, thank you...alas in real life I am pretty grim of visage. Strangers tell me I should smile. lol I had the young thing going on for a while too. Got carded on my 30th birthday and refused service because I left my purse at home. Not a problem any more.

Kristen, thank you dear...love you!

Mom, love you too. Lot of that chin around!

Linda, thanks, JB did have a good thought, didn't he?

Jan, thanks, you have a point. You can always tell can't you? lol

SCMomma, thank you...that is really sweet

Linda, thank you...

EArl, I think that is probably a hopeless task. As far back as my kindergarten picture I have looked like this pic. lol

There's a strength in those blue eyes, a kindness around the mouth . . .

Oh Honey! We love it. Strength and intelligence. The pretty girl The Boss fell in love with is still there.

Awwwwww . . . :-)

Earl, I hope so, but I am a notorious grump. lol

Thank you Rebeka!

Scott, thanks cous. I think I am a cross between Grandpa Montgomery and Great Grandpa McGivern (don't know what happened to everybody else along the way). lol It is hell to get so old you look like your grandparents....and couldn't it at least have been the grandMOTHERS! Take care!

Being another one that has a cemented mental age (I've always been 25... even when I was 12...and now decades later), I can relate to your reluctance to allow a fickle calendar to define us!!
I caught a 15 second snip of a bridal show, where the bride wanted to have plastic surgery to make her "perfect". It broke my heart. Our wear-marks, scars, wounds are the map of where we've been... partly bragging, partly warning others... but darn it... I was there, and I shouldn't have been!! Waylon said it in a song... "If I knew i was going to live this long... i would have taken better care of myself." ...and Dad warned me too.
Cheers to you and your family!! You folks are the most normal i know!! Happy trails!! Patrick

Thanks, Patrick...your kind words are very welcome. (Guys kinda get a pass on the aging thing though...somehow they always look good. lol) But maybe that's just me. Anyhow, you are one of our favorites and we always enjoy your visits. Stay warm and safe.
