Ethanol and Northview Farm
Read about it here.And, no, the article is not about us. We have fewer than a tenth that many cows. However, ethanol production and subsidies here in the US of A have raised our grain prices about double what they were just a few years ago. Believe me, it hurts to pay using milk prices that didn't rise comparably.

Which is why we'd all be better off if government just got out of the business of trying to control the economy. Even if they knew what they were doing, it's still an impossible task, kinda like deciding what time the sun should come up in the morning.
That's why we quit selling poultry, the grain prices quadrupled in 10 years and the retail price of chicken is the same. Just couldn't do it anymore...
It's insane. Really. We've lost our way. While the enviro-wackos micromanage our lives to suit their Utopian visions of carbon-free energy - our lives grow cooler and costlier.
Akagaga, the death of common sense may be the death of our nation. Food is just one aspect of what is becoming a huge mess in a heck of a hurry
Linda, we do...and it is mostly run by people more interested in self-promotion than leadership.
Nita, grain is simply staggering. I thank God that the guys put up some decent forage this past summer
Cathy, if you keep up with Jan at Poodle and Dog blog and see what is going on in the Central Valley in the name of a fish...it is just sickening. And try to eat healthy, just try to go to the store and buy fresh produce on a normal family's budget. It is impossible. we are fortunate because we have a garden and access to great orchards and such, but we still simply don't buy a lot of stuff that would be good for us to eat because we can't afford to. And a lot of the reason is sacred fish in California. Argghhh!!!
