Surprise from the Garden Pond

Look closely, now. This is the base of one of the water cannas, the big variegated one, which I brought inside and placed in a ten-gallon fish tank full of water.

I like to keep them going from year to year so they bloom in the pond, which this one did, quite enthusiastically. A couple of days after it came in I spotted these tiny brown specks all over the inside of the tank. They are growing fast now and it is much easier to tell what they are.

See them? Tiny, baby snails.

That's cool and if you get tired of cows you can start raising snails!

Like all creatures they are even cute as babies.

Interesting that you can bring them in and they survive. I have a cypress that I brought in this fall....I hope it survives.

COOOL! Will you put them in a fish tank and feed them through the winter?

Have fun getting the tank clean of them. Pond snails can survive almost anything.

SCMOmma, yeah, Becky is talking with a French accent and looking up recipes for escargot

Jan, lol, sorry about that. I am kind of fond of creepy crawly things. lol

Linda, they do pretty good indoors. I have brought big ones in before and the live through the winter...generally. Good luck with your Cypress

Linda, actually these hatched in the fish tank...must have come in on the roots of the canna. They won't need to be fed as they can live on algae and plant debris.

Becky, heh, heh

Ruth, I don't mind them. lol
