Old

Photo shamelessly stolen from Liz's blog

Liz had the vet in for her 30-ish years old horse, Tyler, yesterday. It was good to get the old boy looked over thoroughly and make sure that she was doing everything right with his care. Been hard to keep the weight on him.

It was decided that his teeth are excellent, no major systemic problems, getting all the good care that he needs, etc. etc.

He is just old.

The conclusion was that there isn't a thing wrong with him that being young wouldn't cure.

Guess you could say the same thing about me. ...probably about a lot of us.

Both horses got rabies boosters too. The darned fox was in the barn with them, in fact in the stall with Tyler the other night, and Tyler must have kicked him and broke his jaw. So better safe than sorry, although after getting a good look at him we think he was just young and mangy.

Never a dull moment around here.

Being young would fix most things, if only I could keep what I've learned while getting older.

Glad to hear he is doing good, I guess the old age will do it every time.

Mikey from the horseshoeing housewife gives her really old horses something that helps them put on weight. I've emailed her to see what it is and will let you know as soon as she tells me.

Do you find that he has a really long coat, too? Our old horses always seem to grow into woolly mammoths!

Awww . .

I'd say Tyler has received quite a bit of TLC over those 30 years.

Awwww .. . .

REv Paul, personally I miss it quite a lot. lol

Lisa, yeah, young he isn't

Linda, I would really appreciate that! Thanks

Dairymilkmaid, oddly, he is still slick. Our other old horses over the years have grown quite shaggy too

Cathy, LIz has only had him a couple of years, he was given to her. However he did a few years with friends of ours who are wonderful horse people and sold me my dear Magnum who lit my life with joy for so many years. I think he spent the years before LIz got him in pasture retirement so he has had a pretty easy life. lol

Dani, we are hoping the old guy has some time left. Winters are hard on old horses, but he has a snug barn, a warm blanket (first horse on this farm to ever have a blanket) and a good buddy....
