Spending a bit of time today attempting to count birds for the Great Backyard Bird Count. After a week where we have seen bald eagles, robins and all manner of other interesting critters there is simply nothing around. Big excitement was one tufted titmouse and a red-tailed hawk. Wow.
And brrrr. Do you suppose the cold wind is keeping them away? I'll betcha.
Linda, you are so lucky! I have only seen one all winter, although it came at a perfect time. the wind kept most everything hiding yesterday and kinda spoiled our count until dusk when at least seven hundred Canada geese spiraled up off the river and began to fly around. they were simply amazing...not to mention very hard to count!
Dani, that is pretty cool. Usually we have a few around by now, but the oddest things this winter is that despite the warmer than normal weather there are no migrants around yet to mention. Usually some of the more northern sparrows are coming by or cedar waxwings etc. Nothing this year except the amazing flock of geese that is wintering on the river. Wish I could get some shots of them that would show the sheer magnitude of the flock.

It's nice here. I saw a blue bird! They are such a joy...spring is coming they seem to say. I've been seeing some here and there, not lots but some.

We got waxwings in our backyard! First time we've seen them in a couple years.
