Good Morning

Up too early because of a misdirected text, but I have proofreading to do anyhow, so it is okay. The full moon is setting on the buildings, turning them all into a spooky wedding cake, which I would have missed if not awakened. The leftover ice on the driveway looks like molten mercury, flowing down the tire ruts.

It is so bright that I had to stop on the stair landing to figure out what I was seeing.

We had a nice chat via text...getting up early was well worth it to have a chance to talk to my far-away boy.How wonderful the technology that lets a mom in upstate NY talk to a boy working within sight of the US Capitol.

And because I was up early because of the text I heard something fall at the sink. When I got up to see what it was I saw something....something black....lolloping across the heifer pasture hill.

I couldn't figure out what it was. Long, very dark, pretty close to the size of my dog or a fox...too big for a raccoon or a skunk. But humpy like a mustelid.

I watched until it went into the heifer woods. Then I realized. It was a fisher!

Although they have been seen on the farm, I had personally never seen one before.

So between the nice chat and the strange animal it was well worth getting up early.

  2. The "snow" moon. You got it! Hubby and I watched the moon shadows last night.

As for that fisher. Wow. I guess you're just barely in their range. Followed your links:
" Fishers mate 6-8 days after giving birth and delayed implantation makes gestation nearly one year." Yikes!

  5. Rev. Paul, lol I paid later...had to go to bed at 9:30

Cathy, sure was a pretty moon. As to the fishers, they have been extending their range a lot in recent decades and have become downright common around here. Several instances of them even coming into cities and going into buildings in towns. A lot of mustelids practice delayed implantation.

Linda, I hope all those storms you are getting fill up your water table so you have a good farming year.
