Sad Story Moving
In a powerful example of the influence of social media on our lives, last night when we came in from chores, we found a Facebook post from a neighbor about the untimely accidental death of a prominent farmer in a county near here.
By this morning the sad news had flowed over the site like a wave, reaching people involved in the ag industry across the state and the country, and then being passed along by them.
Without Facebook it might have been months before we knew, as this fine man was someone we had only met at farm meetings over the years, although Liz knew him from meeting him and talking cows when she was at college.
Condolences to the Peck family of Saratoga County at this time of devastating loss.
So sad. The Pecks are a legendary dairy family in Saratoga County, and unfortunately, they are also known for having lost family members Mary Louise and her daughter Kristen when the Schoharie Creek bridge of the NYS Thruway collapsed in 1987 and sent their car plunging into the creek below.
ReplyDeleteWW, we were just talking about that. It happened just a couple of miles from us. Ralph actually heard the bridge fall. So much tragedy. As you said, so sad.
ReplyDeleteYes, Marianne . . . we are so connected. It's good. And yet on days when so much seems dark, and sad news ripples toward us and breaks around our tired hearts . . .
ReplyDeleteStill, we are not alone and we can send our support and caring through the ether. It is good.
Sorry to hear about that!
ReplyDeleteCathy, for a hermit like me it is a Godsend....
ReplyDeleteLisa, sure a sad story for a family that has already seen plenty of hardship
