Decline Free Offer
Despite painstakingly doing everything I could to stop Microcrud from updating this poor old thing to Windows 10........
Despite reading everything I would find on how to avoid it.....
I still got the dreaded screen with the x that isn't exit.
Thanks to Kim Komando I knew enough to not click that x, which begins the install, but rather to click...twice....the decline free offer button.
Because yeah, I need a word processing program and mine (from what I have read) doesn't play nice with Windows 10. Don't want to buy another one. Don't want to mess with another one. I know how to use the one I have.
This is not a big problem for me personally, although it is annoying in spades.
What is a big problem is that I am going away for a week, tomorrow, and the boss will be playing with this. We share.
He is not tech savvy. He forgets.
If I come home from camp and find this thing running a program that won't run the stuff I use for work I am going to be really ticked off.
I am not sure what to do about this. How do I make sure he doesn't accidentally update?

You should be able to revert back to your previous version of Windows (not that I've done it). See this
https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/instantanswers/1235b5b0-bf94-4b77-9cbd-1c1a8337070c/going-back-to-windows-7-or-windows-8.1 (Or Google "how to revert back to Windows 7")
And if you're paying for Microsoft Word, there's a free software package called Libre which is supposed to work like Word. https://www.libreoffice.org/
A great big huge sticker on the screen that says "DON'T PRESS ANY BUTTONS!!!!"!
Thanks, Bill, I have been reading up on it right along, but some friends have had terrible crashes with older computers when the update goes on. I am hoping to avoid it altogether. Maybe when it becomes a pay product at the end of this month they will stop harassing me.
Ruth, yeah, we need to get him his own computer really. I have so much stuff on this one....
I don't want the upgrade EITHER!
I also have an old computer and I really like my Windows 7.
Linda
Linda, I have used a lot of operating systems and it is by far the best. There are people that like 10, but there are very many complaints about it and some of them are pretty serious.

This is what I used to keep 10 off my computer and it worked!
