And so do the northern finches, sparrows and other goodies, either migrating through or irrupting because of a poor cone crop up north.

We have been seeing Pine Siskins for several days, Snow Buntings, Horned Larks, and today a Fox Sparrow, but the piece de resistance came today in the form of four Evening Grosbeaks.

| The geese and ducks down on the river were all covered with snow the other day when we took Becky down to work. Must have slept through the storm. Something I had never seen before |

LInda, it is. This is abnormally early for this sort of weather. Enjoying the cool birds though
They are cool. You asked it the blue bird was a green-tailed towhee on my blog, but it wasn't. It was a bluebird. Now the one at the very bottom I don't know. Could it be a tow-hee?
Funny to think that we are "down South" for many wintering birds! I look forward to seeing our first Junco soon.
LInda, I find your bird photos fascinating. I can eventually get to an ID on most local birds but your western birds are a whole new challenge. Love them!
Jacqueline, that is an interesting thought. Our juncos come back really early here. This year not so much but the two years before that we had one that showed up in late August. eBird did not like him one bit. lol. I was beyond thrilled to see the grosbeaks. 22 years of absence! Alas, they have not been back, but we can hope.
