  1. I love your beautiful pictures. My robin, my bluebird, lifetime favorites. When I was a girl there was a window over the kitchen sink which faced east, and Dad had put up a bluebird house on a metal pipe. We could watch the bluebirds while we did dishes. When he built on to the house, the house covered that area and we never saw the bluebirds again. Robins are the harbingers of spring here in our crab apple tree. Love to see them. Love you daughter, Mom and Dad.

  4. Thanks for all the bird photos you post. I have such blurry eyesight I can never see them if they are in the trees. I have to bird by ear. I was walking in a swamp just yesterday and heard squeaky squawks as if by many birds. There must have been a dozen birds in the trees just over my head, but I could not detect a single one. They sounded similar to grackles, but a little more like a rusty gate. I think they may have been Rusty Blackbirds, an unusual species that is known to visit this swamp along the Bog Meadow Brook Nature Trail in Saratoga.

  5. Mom, thank you for your kind words. I love seeing them too. I never knew about grandpa having bluebirds, but I remember him going out to feed his chickadees in his big straw hat and putting seeds on the brim for them to fly down and land on him. How I loved watching out the kitchen window! They would sometimes eat from his hand too, if he had time to wait for them. Love you too!

Cathy, my mama is an amazing person. Strong, funny, faithful, and fair, and a great story teller. She and I still share stories when we talk every evening. I love getting a different perspective on family members we both knew but in different ways, as well as hearing about ones I never met.

Jacqueline, same here. I have a good eye for movement, but without binoculars and camera I would be lost. I envy your rusties. A friend is seeing and hearing them too, but we just haven't had time to go to the right spot. Covid has me spending many hours babysitting, which is right and good, but does curtail some of the birding. As always, I love your glorious photos of the outdoors and learning about plants from your blog posts.

LInda, thanks you are very kind!
