AKA Whiskey Jack
A Canada Jay might not be the cutest bird in the world, but they are way up in the running.
If you have an older field guide, a Grey Jay
Thanks to a good friend who took us birding, we saw some yesterday and much enjoyed same. A year is not complete without seeing them, hearing their cheerful calls, and watching them float in from the forest like silver ghosts on silent wings.
Another Northwoods Ghost,
the Ruffed Grouse
Thanks, Kris for the tour, and Tina for the great company. What an awesome day!

Thank you Linda, my friend got some stunning photos.
You must have gone up north to see those "silver ghosts float in from the forest on silent wings." What a beautiful way to describe a bird I never see around Saratoga County!
Jacqueline, up north of Long Lake there is a place where someone feeds them regularly and they are quite tame. I guess they are as fierce as any other jay, but they seem like fluffy toys. An utter delight to me. I was so grateful to our friend who made the trip possible as I didn't think I would get to see them this year. And thanks!
