I say boi because the tympanum is larger than the eye in this handsome denizen of the watering trough that is my garden pond. Such a calm creature, utterly ignoring the lady hanging up laundry.

By the way, I'm having fun with the Merlin app.
Shirley, I love it! It does make some mistakes, but I find it so helpful. I tend to stop hearing common local birds, as I sort of tune them out. The app reminds me to listen and note them. I am worst with House Wrens. We have a pair nesting just outside the living room door by my chair and they sing all day. It soon fades into the background noise. Glad you are having fun with it
