It's always a thrill for me when I see my first returning flock. I've heard their honking all day.
I love these birds even though some find them a nuisance in city parks. I happily step around their droppings. (Are you hearing the oh-karee of Red-winged Blackbirds, yet?
We've had geese all year long. I'm not sure what's up with that. Someone said it was because they went south in late fall and a storm in Colorado turned them around. I don't know why, but they stayed around.
Hi Apple, I love to hear them too, especially when they fly at night. Something about their call is haunting.
Cathy, they get some bad press here too. For the most part they don't bother us too much and I enjoy hearing and watching them..and yes, the red wings have been back for a couple of weeks now and I enjoy their musical chiming calls. It is wonderful to have it acting like spring and to have the birds returning.
Laurie, yeah, those are resident geese, not quite as popular as the migrating wilder ones. We had too much snow for many to hang around this winter.
Geese and muskrats!
We don't see much of either here.
Hi FC, we see hundreds of geese every day this time of year and muskrats can be found in almost any large roadside ditches. These houses are HUGE though. Never seen any others as big.

The geese were along a back road over in Sharon Springs where we drove last week, but we do get a lot of them here at home too.
How sad is it that living on the North shore of Lake Ontario, I see a field of Canadian Geese and two thoughts roll through my noggin'...
#1: They're vicious creatures... don't get too close.
#2: MINE FIELD!
Geese leave... um... "leavings" about the size of a small dog or cat... and the parks and beaches here in Toronto are pretty much a danger-zone of goose-poop.
