Old stone mill

The stream below the mill

Had to go to Oneonta again and finally got a couple shots of this old mill. It was kind of hairy parking along I-88 with the semi's roaring by practically scooping the car up in their slip streams. Kind of a neat old place though.

Thanks for the shot of the mill. We're taking a course at FMCC with Peter Betz, (local historian) on the Mohawk Valley during the Revolutionary war and realize how much history is right here in the valley. Any idea how old that Mill was. How do you know it was a mill? Love your site with all the pictures of the country side and animals.

Hi Karen, we are going by the style of the building and its placement, right at the edge of a vigorous stream... thanks for the kind words.
Amazing how close we are to our nation's history here in the valley, isn't it? I was recently loaned some maps, which show a Mohawk village of which I was previously unaware not far from us....I have never found so much as a fragment of pottery though in years of looking downward when I walk.

I, too, am drawn to old buildings. This one is so wonderful as it is stone and must have witnessed so much hustle and bustle for so many years. And now silence - except for the semi's which apparently you managed to avoid. Whew!

Wow! This would be a great place to shoot a short film.

Hello cathy, today it seems to be oddly placed as there is really nothing else near it...just woods and the stream.

Hi Gatekeeper and thanks for the visit. It does have a lot of atmosphere indeed/

I'd say it was worth the risk to get that picture of the mill. Nice shot.

Great pictures. I love stone buildings. I wonder how old it is? Not really familiar with your area but I looked here.
Could it date back 200 yrs?
