Smoke....big pullers

Went over to the fair last night because Liz didn't feel well and the guys wanted to see the Supernatural, which belongs to friends of ours, pull. Took a walk around the fairgrounds, then took care of Blink, the calf that we have over there. She is so sweet, just the nicest baby. She loves attention and eats French fries, which is an important attribute in a fair animal.

Got to talk to an amazing array of wonderful people and got to eat some amazing cookies. What more could there be to life? I felt so at home sitting on that old blue show box, reading a Kjelgaard book and watching the people go by.
(How could Wild Trek, which is such a rich and detailed adventure story be older then I am?)

As kids got driver's licenses and took over the show string, I have stayed home and missed the belonging part more and more. Somebody has to do the work at home and I have had my years of showing, since I was twenty-two or so and started with horses and chickens and bunnies.

It was kind of nice to have personal charge of a lovely cow and personal time to read my heart out. It would have been nicer though to know where the scrubbing brush was so I could spot wash poor Blink who had a couple of spots in addition to the ones she was born with. Anyhow, it's a good fair so far.

I was just wondering if a friend of ours was there pulling when I clicked on the link and saw you were talking about tractors. We have a friend that travels the east coast pulling with a semi.

I like the shaky hand effect. Hope there are french fries with vinegar.

Those tractor pulls are noisy affairs and it wouldn't be Fair time http://www.loudonvillefair.com/
without 'em.

Chris, it is fun...thanks for visiting and commenting

Stacy, they have the big rigs pulling too, so he may have/or going to pull there.

Cathy, There are indeed, although I haven't had any yet...just pancakes and sausage so far. ....yours looks like a fun fair.

Yay! The fair!

I so love the fair. I'm sorry to say that I haven't gone to our county fair in all the time I've lived here because for some unfathomable insanity, they hold it smack in the middle of August during the hottest part of the year.

But I'm a big fan of the fair. I loved the ones in Britain...they call them "cheese shows". They really are way more agriculture centered than ours. No rides or anything, but lovely heavy horse shows, pulling, dairy and beekeeping things...and of course, Cheese!

I'm so happy you like the stories. I've been saving up a lot for this stint that I've known I was going to do all summer. After, I'll get back to my regular story cycle of doing some fiction every week or so.

Jen and I enjoyed the pulls with Dad and Alan last night. Enjoy the rest of the week.

Stacy,
The semi's pull this Sunday.

Rosie, I loved the fair so much when I was younger...it has kind of gotten to be work the past few, although I have had a lot of fun this year.
As to your stories, they are simply stunning. Anyone who gets a chance should take a minute and read them.

NYV, they had a great time too...glad you saved them seats.

I hope Liz is feeling better.

Mom can't believe you read those books! She read and reread the Big Red series, Wild Trek, a Nose for Trouble, Haunt Fox, and all that she could find! She still has a soft spot for Irish Setters!

Hi FC, she was fine enough for an all day rodeo marathon and a late night over there, thanks

Hi Cubby, tell your mom if she has Haunt Fox to hang on to it as it has become very valuable. I have been rereading all that we have lately. See, our boy never reads anything but Harry Potter, LOTR and Gary Paulsen. I coaxed him to try kjegaard and he has gone through them like a rocket. Great stories!

I'm glad you had fun at the fair. Hope your calf didn't eat too much fries. I didn't want to see your calf to get sick, you know.

On a different note, I hope you don't mind, threecollie if I could recommend you as part of Blog Day2007 that's being held all over the Blogosphere today. If you want to know what it is, check this site out.
