Corn



The past week has been an epic journey of corn for Liz and me. The boss planted ten pounds of sweet corn last spring.





I swear every single kernel grew and a lot of stalks produced two ears. You already know how we kept the raccoons out of it. Every day except a couple when there was just too much else to do the two of us picked and husked corn.


Boiled it.



Cut it off the cob.




Stuffed it in bags.


And then into the freezer.


We did over 180 ears today, but most days around 110 was enough to use up the time we had. Today may be the last as it is getting a little tough...not bad, but we have two and a half freezer shelves full and we are sending a beef tomorrow.




Here is a short video of Hurricane Ike buzzing through. Pretty mild compared to what he got up to in other states....just a big wind here.

Oh man, I wish I could stuff my chops into that corn, wag my head from side to side making motor boat noises. YUMMO!!!!!!!!!!!
Isn't there something about fermenting corn juice or something or am I still delerious?

Anon, there is something I hadn't thought of. ool

Steve, wish you did live closer. We were looking for victims...er neighbors....to give corn. And word is that the boss's dad had something to do with that fermenting business, but we can't prove it.

Teri, we do too....a favorite vegetable. Just at this point Liz and I are kind of sick of looking at it, but we are going to get a couple little piggies and they can eat the rest.

Now that was a mouthwatering post! We can't get sweet corn in Mexico. Believe it or not, they eat field corn with mayonaisse on it! Yes, it's yucky.

Islagringo...thanks, the field corn with mayo doesn't sound too appetizing for sure. Around here some of the Amish peddle field corn that isn't quite ripe yet as if it were sweet corn. (And I think some folks actually can't tell the difference. lol.) We learned quickly to buy our corn, when we have to buy it, at the farm stand down the road.
