Really! This is one tough lady. We have been discussing stong women (and men) here the past couple of days. This is the ultimate if you ask me.
***Thanks to my friend Elaine Shein for this story.

Life on a family farm in the wilds of Upstate New York

A whole mile with that fox...WOW!!
That must have been incredibly painful - she was a quick thinker for sure. She's got guts, no doubt about it!
Yikes. I'd have killed it and then carried it to the car.
Yep thats tough!
We have lots of Fox in our area. They are shy, sly creatures, to have one run at you and then bite you is next to amazing.
When I heard it on the news I was really surprised the fox would attack. But being rabid explains much.
Now for the lady....I don't know what I would have done, I don't think I could kill it, I don't think I could run with it on me...I don't know.
That woman IS AMAZING!

Good grief.
Tough, but I'm with Troll on this one.
Wow that is one tough woman!!!
wouldn't have opened that trunk for a while though. rabid fox in a trunk alive. Not me no way!!
love ya
matt
Dani, I couldn't run that mile in the first place, let alone with a fox gnawing on me....I do carry a Swiss army knife though
Deb, Besides the rabies shots I imagine she is undergoing some serious medical procedures for the bites. I have a largish fear of rabies. There is a lot of it around here
Troll, I wonder why she didn't. If not armed you would think she could have choked it...maybe she didn't have enough strength to do so.
Tipper, stronger than I would be for sure
Linda, she was. And I feel very sorry for what she is certainly dealing with now. A friend of ours went through the rabies series and didn't find it very entertaining.
Joce, I'll second that
FC, me too, if she could have. It was a very scary story. I already think twice about what might be rustling around in the bushes (usually sparrows).....
Matt, a little ether might have helped the situation along...love you.
My husband came home and relayed this story as well--it's really amazing that this woman had such presence of mind to KEEP the animal to make sure it would be tested for rabies, not bite anyone else (except the animal control officer, of course), etc. Very impressive, really.
This really hits home that if you're an outdoor enthusiast or otherwise have a lifestyle that brings you into contact with potentially rabid animals, you should get the rabies pre-exposure shot & boosters--the result is a less painful series of shots after-the-fact.
Amanda, we have had so much rabies around here in the past 20 years or so that you get to know the look of them. I am really paranoid about it.
