I wonder if Dr. Seuss had a portfolio of caterpillar photos to work from!

It looks like a prettier version of our Tomato Horn Worm.

Yes! That's what they look like in one phase; the caterpillars change colors. Oh, you are so lucky -- those moths are beautiful. We have a few here but I haven't seen one in a while. It's my favorite kind of moth.

Teri, I remember the first time we ever saw one. I was just a little kid and we had moved to the country much to my delight (I was born a farm kid, just didn't happen to be born to farmers). Imagine a beautiful, many-colored creature the size of an adult's hand! It was simply splendiferous.

FC, Can't tell you how tickled I was when Alan brought it down to us

Farmchick, thanks for visiting! I love getting to know new folks and enjoyed my visit to your blog.

Becky, awwww......

Caroline, hmmmmm interesting thought...I could see that he might have.

Jan, that was my first thought too! Then I realized that it was not quite right and we looked it up
I don't know my caterpillars and such at all

Elizabeth, they are pretty rare around here too...I have probably only seen three or four in my life and this is the first caterpillar. The kids found it in the road, but moved it to a safer place, so hopefully it will grow and prosper.

Linda, thanks, it looked like a cross between an ugly green worm and something you might find crawling out of a crowded clown car. lol

Steve, thank you. Only you know exactly why it is possible for me to take photos like that and I am thankful every single day of my life. Literally. Honestly. If you ever need good karma you have it here.
