Thanks threecollie! People really need to know what is going on in other parts of the country!

You would think our California senators would be fighting for these farmers.

You would be wrong.

This made me so mad when I heard about it May. It's just over my head with the stupidity of it all.

lisa, this thing is so horrifying. To permit a few environmentalists to put farmers on welfare and turn one of the most productive regions in the world into a desert for fish! It is just sickening.

Jan, I have been amazed by this...and darned discouraged. I don't know how they can do this, but they should somehow be made to understand the ramifications of such damage to the economy of your already staggering state and to the people who lost their livelihoods and to me when I go to the store and can't afford to buy the vegetables they tell me that I should eat.

Sara, I don't know how they can do it. I don't know how people can let them do it. It is simply horrible.

Linda, to me this is simply insane! Even the UN says we will need to produce 70% more food in the coming years just to feed the world's people...so we shut down such a productive region...for a fish...it boggles the mind.

it's a tragic situation, but it's not about choosing a fish over farmers. the delta is the single most important element in california's water supply system, and it is in serious trouble. urban development, pollution, invasive species and a decaying infrastructure have all contributed to the problem. there's not an easy solution, and as more and more people move into the area (it's one of the fastest growing areas in california), it's only going to get worse.

Ericka, I know this has been building for a long time and that there are many factors at play. However, the way the government is handling it is obscene and unhelpful at any level. I read a letter from Senator Graasley, on another topic, about the EPA in fact...and in it one of the head regulators writing farm air quality policy BRAGGED about never having set foot on a farm. Makes me scared as heck!
