The girls like it when we stay home and take care of them so we have never been to World Dairy Expo (on this week in Madison, Wisconsin.) However, this year I have had the unprecedented pleasure of following the action via photos on the All Breeds Blog. It is so cool to see the exhibits, the faces of the excited folks attending (even a couple of them whom we know and talk to now and then) and most especially the wonderful, wonderful cows of all the top dairy breeds. There was a heifer pictured there today that is probably the best looking Swiss I ever saw
This afternoon I clicked on over to see what new photos of fabulous cows had been posted. I scrolled just a little bit down the page and stopped in awe.
Man, oh, man what a cow. Not one thing about her not to like. Long and black with an udder that looks painted on. Correct legs. Top line smoother than my kitchen table, which is pretty darned smooth and so elegant you could expect her to be wearing white gloves and a tiara.. She is sure something.
Then I read the caption.
Harvue Roy Frosty, last year's supreme champion. (You can take a look at her yourself here). She has just been scored Excellent 96 and boy did she earn every point... Not too surprising that she might catch your eye.
If I am not mistaken, this year's supreme champion will be chosen tomorrow. I can hardly wait to see who it is.

We look for different things in beef cattle - our perfect cow is a lot different.
I LOVE watching the WDE show via live video. :) It is the one day during the year that I start chores late to watch the crowning of this years "Queen".
And while I love Frosty, the cow from '08 was AWESOME... I want that cow! :) lol... also would love Snickerdoodle...
Those are some very nice looking cows! I'd love to be there too, to stare at them all in person.
A good description of farm life with photos. Keep it up.
Frosty was bred by our long time friends, the Hardesty's, of Berryville, VA. Great Holstein family with deep roots in Berryville.
Jeffro, yes indeed! I have folks at every show stop and complain about why our big Holstein, Lemmie, is so much bonier than the Herefords and Angus. It is really hard to explain to them that she looks like she is supposed to look...she has a different (and probably from her point of view more rewarding) job in life.
Sara, this year is a first for me. And what a year it will be with the line up out there this time! We love Snickerdoodle too and that Guernsey..Pistachio Pie...she is another amazing animal. Liz is going to a rodeo in Connecticut tonight but she wants me to call her when the winner is announced. Now that you have given us the idea we may milk late too. lol
Jessika, wouldn't it be cool! Alas the only way we are ever going to get there is to retire and that would kind of take the shine off I think.
Palmtide, thanks! And thanks for visiting!
Nursejoan, Wow, that is really cool! It must be such a thrill to see her doing so well. We have a couple of Roylane Jordan daughters in the barn, and although they don't compare to Frosty we sure like them.
I'm posting this late because I was there-Fri. & Sat. Frosty is indeed a beautiful animal. Looked better this year I think than last
year. That is our only "vacation"
& our boys milk for us.
Lindy, that is just wonderful! I So cool that you were actually there! And thanks for sharing your experience. Someday I would like to go and see all those wonderful cows, but for now we can't. Everyone who could do the chores either has a job or is in college....maybe some day.
