Got to get a couple of frogs out of the garden pond
and into a more appropriate puddle real soon
It's the boss's birthday today. Made him his birthday dinner yesterday, (mostly because I was in the mood to cook.) Monster burgers, sweet potatoes, mashed potatoes, his own coleslaw, (his is better than mine so I let him make it) and apple crisp..... a lot bigger dinner than we have been having but it is cold.
And the cold makes you hungry.
It rained again yesterday too, just as the ground was beginning to sort of dry up. Now they are calling for frost. In my lifetime the first frost date around here has been all over the calendar, from the last week in August to into the second week in October. I guess mid September is pretty much average, but I wish it would hold off. Beck and I brought most of my plants inside yesterday, but I still have all the water garden stuff to do. That is a miserable task. The water cannas grow roots that hand in the water several feet and they weigh a ton. Finding a spot for them to winter is a chore. I may fill my two empty fish tanks up and set them on top with their roots hanging in. They bloomed indoors last winter, in big bowls in the kitchen. Kind of nice....
The tomatoes are coming on like gang busters. I hate to see them end. I love tomato sandwiches. And taco bowls. And the little ones, half green and warm from the sun...sour and good. The excess water has made the big ones so watery (not juicy, just watery) that keeping them for even a few days is a challenge. Hopefully I can hold them long enough to ripen fully and freeze for soup stock....
Well, maybe the guys can chop a little today. Or maybe they will never get the feed in. Who knows? Not much sense sweating it. No one can control the weather and we sure aren't alone. On the way up to the farm show we saw a lot of hay that had just been taken off the high fields. What a mud-slide-slippery-rutted-up mess. At least we weren't under water though like a lot of folks.

Happy Birthday to the Boss. Hope he enjoyed his brief respite with the trip to the farm show. And those monster burgers.
May the real frost hold off a little longer and things dry out sufficiently to get some more feed and hay cut for the coming months.
Awwww . . . Happy Happy Birthday to the Boss!
With a meal like the one you spread before him - how could he help but be happy :)
BTW. He is married to one of the finest diarist in the USA.
Tell him Happy Birthday from here. We had the first frost a couple of nights ago and I hear there is snow in the mountains.....guess its that time of year again.
