Life on a family farm in the wilds of Upstate New York
Looks like a maple tree. Same leaf. But that's just a guess.
Sure looks like Red Maple:http://northernwoodlands.org/knots_and_bolts/red_versus_sugar
I'm thinking it could be Sycamore, with those gray-green leaves. Was the bark smooth and mottled green? Does it have round bristly fruits?
If that tree were around here, and had a white bark I would say it was a silver-leaf Maple. The leaves are green with a white furry back. I love them.Lindahttp://coloradofarmlife.wordpress.com http://deltacountyhistoricalsociety.wordpress.com
Sycamore was the first thing that popped into my mind. Not sure why I discounted that. The bark would really be the give away if it is a sycamore.
