City Boys

This is a turkey

The boss went over to the livestock sale this afternoon to check out the price of feeder calves.

Incidentally today, the first of May, is opening day of spring turkey season.

This is a turkey too

On his way over he saw two fellows coming out of the woods with their kill. This was wrong on so many counts.

First of all, season ends at noon each day. This was well after two PM, as he generously took me birding before going over.

Also these were not males, the only birds allowed to be taken, but were both hens.

However, worse, far worse than that, was that the "turkeys" were Barred Rock chickens.

How bout that!

This is not a turkey.
It isn't a Barred Rock either,
but I am too lazy to go down to the barn to get a picture of one.

WHAT!?! They shot someone's chickens under the guise of hunting turkeys?!! What is this world coming to? That is so pathetic!

I've thought for many, many years that in order to get a license to hunt deer, you should have to identify a picture of a deer, picked out from among a horse, a great dane, a jersey cow, and a donkey, having known of people shooting all of these during fall hunting season. FYI, the one who killed the donkey did get arrested, as he happened to drive by my brother (when he was still a trooper) with the donkey tied on his hood.

So I guess now we need to have them identify a turkey from among a bunch of birds. And unfortunately, it's not just city boys that are such idiots. Some of those city boys are probably your neighbors who have "moved to the country."

Aarghh.

LInda, appalling, isn't it?

Wendy, we could not believe it. Did they not realize that they were chickens, or were they just that rotten? Unreal.

Aka, I know, it is amazing. Friends had a goat we sold them shot right in their front yard, right in front of their window, where the wife was looking out! Wonder no one was killed except the poor goat. Don't think they caught those guys though.
