.....to check on a heifer, Sedona, who is going to have a calf any minute now…or so we hope. Yesterday she was leaking milk and you could clearly see that the baby had moved up into the birth canal so it won’t be long. The barn lights were on, so I knew someone had been out since midnight but I went out anyhow. Sometimes you can check an hour after the last person found nothing and the calf is already there. We turn the lights on if anyone goes out between midnight and dawn, as cows respond well to a somewhat extended photoperiod and give between five and sixteen percent more milk if they get enough hours.
Of course, Sedona was fine, chewing her cud and looking at me with mild curiosity. No calf yet.
I checked the other two heifers who are close, Zipper and Bariolee, (no action there either) put some wood on the stove, and came in out of the pearly darkness to enjoy a couple of hours on the computer in splendid, uninterrupted solitude.
I wrote this post and uploaded the moon picture.
Blogger closed and ate the post.
I did it again.
Blogger closed and ate the post.
This time I had right clicked and copied so I could just past the text back in.
Blogger ate that too.
I could think of some lovely choice words for Blogger this exquisite, shining, mid-winter morning. Uploading the same photo thrice and having to rewrite the same number of times is just a pain in the neck. The second words never have the life of the first. However, I will save my nasty thoughts for the busy little troll who put a volume or so of half truths, lies and damn lies in my comments, but doesn't have nerve enough to leave a public profile so we can see who they are.
And I will write this in Word and just go through and fix all the curly quotes later.

Sorry you were hit by a troll. Some people need to get a *real* life.
I've been trying to write and thank you for two days! Blogger wouldn't let me. I really appreciated your comments and support while Toggle was sick and in the house. I'm sure DH could appreciate that at least it was goats in the house and not cows! :D Good luck with your heifers and babies!
Hi caroline and thanks. I often want to leave comments on blogs and can't because Blogger won't cooperate.
As I said, I like your blog. I admire the way you take care of your critters and I so envy you your eggs. We only have two hens any more and they steal nests and hide their eggs.
I can empathize with you threecollie, I am not so sure that the new and improved Blogger is all that is it cracked up to be!
Sorry you went out mom. Tomorrow I will leave a note with the last time I went out so you won't have to worry.
And that guy, er, troll, sounds like a, well, I guess you know me well enough to know what I would write. :)
Wow, yah know, Northview looks pretty good on blogmad. lol
I've had blogger issues as well. It gets pretty frustrating. Mine is working for now, hope yours is too.
I was also visited by trolls on a post I did about wind energy. I finally had use comment moderation until they left. GRRR
HiJoni, well said,
Hey Paint, now it is me and your dad getting up at three to go check everybody. And Salt Lake was loose in the barn as was Blink so we had to work a bit
Hey there Laurie, I just wish it would mess up the same way all the time. Then you could work around it. Instead one time one thing works and the next it doesn't.
Yah Blogger has been misbehaving this last few days!
And ditto what you said to CitizenP. Sheesh. And don't even get me STARTED on PETA!!
Any calf yet?
Oh PS - not to defend your troll. But I've noticed that when I post on beta blogger sites, my profile usually doesn't show up. It always does on "old" blogger sites, and I have not switched yet. I think it's a blogger thing to penalise those of us who haven't switched over because we are afraid something will go *poof* and disappear all the archives!
Blogger can be so irritating at timee but at least the price is right.
I can't imagine someone writing a volumne like that and not leaving a return address. Doesn't appear to be very sure of their convictions if they can't be rebutted.
That looks like the same moon we have here.
Good thing it is free, because it would never make it as a pay host site.
The question is how long can we all stand it?
Before new blogger I could post 4 pics at a time, now only one. I must resign in about a zillion times a day also.
Double grrrrrr!
Hey Carina. Since mom isn't home right now I will answer that question on the calf. Sedona had a nice little bull calf last night. They are both doing pretty well as of the last time I was in the barn. :)
Hi carina, you could be right about the profile thing. I have noticed a lot of them seem to show up as private.
Hey there Dave, it is free and they do work hard to fix it. I should get used to writing in Word and fixing the punctuation I guess
Hi FC, yeah, the free part is good. I tried WordPress and it is about as user friendly as a no drugs root canal
Thanks Liz!
FWIW based on some Googling, the "busy troll" stuff was probably from here:
