Pocket Door Key

Ed was very close with his guess of a skate key. This particular key goes to the double door to the parlor.

I have pocket doors, too, but I don't have that very cool hardware on them. Is that a patent date stamped on it?

it's kind of weird to be in love with a house i've never actually SEEN, but i am.

Your house reminds me of house that I wrote a National Register application for. It was built in 1874 and no expense was spared in the building.

I see that link is not all there - sorry. The article is about the Zimmerman house in Oregon.

Dani, thanks, I have come to love it. It has a very strong "personality" and is an entity in and of itself. When we moved in it was as if for a while we were under trial before it decided that it liked us.

Becky, having seen your crushed finger I understand how you feel. That and the blood on the ceiling and all.

The Wife, thanks, I am glad Alan noticed it

Lisa, I am getting so much enjoyment out of seeing your pictures!! Especially your header. That is such a serene and comforting shot.

Ed, You know, we actually have a big old wardrobe up in one of the bed rooms. I wonder.....nah....I'm not climbing into that thing, lol

Akagaga, it is indeed 1885. We thought the house was older than that as there is something written in the attic about a roof being put on quite a lot earlier than that. We would love to know when it was actually built, but I have never been able to find out.

Erick, I understand. this house has loomed large in my life since long before I met the boss. (Although we lived about two miles apart when we were kids we never met until we were in our thirties. He didn't ride the bus. I did)
The school bus went right by this place when I was little and we always called it the haunted house. I can distinctly remember looking up the hill at its shabby splendor and wondering what it was like inside...and being a little afraid of its spookiness. I certainly never imagined I would live here one day.

Nita, I will do a search and see if I can find it. I really wish we could get an accurate building date for this one, but I don't even know where to start.

FC, what a nice way to think of it!

I missed seeing this one!! My grandparents had a pocket door between their dining room and living room and it had a latch like this one. Memories!!! :)

Dibear, my grandparents had them too, but I don't remember a key. I never paid any attention to these until my son noticed the patent. We have always looked for clues as to how old the house is, since we don't know.
