Turkey Day
Photo by Alan, taken through the living room window
A new hen turkey has taken up residence here by the house. Last year's neighborly bird was taken out by a coyote or fox.....we missed her. Alan also took a terrific video which I will post when we figure out how to get rid of the audio of somewhat profane exclamations of amazement at her nearness (thanks, Boss).
June, right in the driveway about 100 feet away. The turkeys don't seem to mind us going about our business and last year's hen came right up to the edge of the garden when I was working there and talked to me.
Lisa, not season yet. lol And she is a girl so is safe in spring season...and I wouldn't let him so close to the house...so she has it made unless the coyotes get her. She looks like a very young bird to me so she is probably not too savvy yet.
Dani, Alan was "talking" to her which may be part of why she came so close to the house. He is an incredible mouth caller and has also called in coyotes and other hunters...which was pretty scary
Nita, we do have quite a variety, thanks...and thank you for coming by to read and comment. That is t makes it all fun for me.
Cathy, Becky is working on adding a good song instead of the boss's foolishness...and I was astonished that the bird was taken right on the lawn, but since then we have found severed duck wings right next to the porch and lots of tracks in winter, indicating that some canine predator makes the corner of the front yard a regular part of its rounds.
Sara...hmmmm....hadn't thought of a name, although she may get one if she stays around. Open to suggestions
FC, a bird named Damn...who would have thought of it
Dani, a sound heard very often around here between the real turkeys and our resident turkey caller.

How close to the house is she?
Isn't she afraid of all the activity?
I want to know how you did that!!!
Sorry, but you mean Alan didn't have his gun ready. We saw quite a few yesterday.
GOBBLES!!!!!!!
The bird diversity at your place is amazing!
And I just wanted to say thanks for posting every single day - makes my day here on the west coast!!
I'm cracking up over the audio problems of that video!
Oh go for it! It won't be anything none of us have heard before or even uttered in moments of frustration or unbridled delight.
I've got a video I'm going to put up on Youtube that has an unfortunate reference to some previous neighbors.
Oh, what the he** :-D
