Montgomery County Sundae on the Farm

Who’s up for a day in the country? Anybody ready to revel in the sweetness of the season, meet friends and neighbors, and learn a bit about the industry that is the backbone of the state’s economy?

Ready to pet baby animals? Discover the taste of locally grown fruits and vegetables?

Mark your calendar.

Montgomery County Farm Bureau’s annual Sundae on the Farm will take place this Sunday, September 15th, at MMT Cattle Farm, 1942 Hickory Hill Rd, Fonda. It is going to be a great event.

“MMT Cattle Incorporated is a diversified beef cattle operation.  Founded in 2003, the 250 acre farm is owned and operated by Marc and Nicole Tommell.  Along with the Tommell’s, 4 full time and 2 part time employees help operate the day to day activities.
MMT Cattle purchases all types of cattle throughout New York, Pennsylvania and New England.  Typically, there are 800-900 head at the farm at one time.  The cattle are grown and organized for future resale.  Many of the cattle are resold around 500 lbs or 6 months of age.  Typically, these cattle are shipped to Midwestern states with regular customers in Michigan, Iowa and South Dakota.  Cattle that MMT retains are grown and finished at other “feedlots” in New York State.
Along with the commercial cattle business, MMT is home to a registered Angus herd.   Forty purebred cows roam the pastures and calve either spring or fall.  A passion, for the Tommells, they careful select genetics and use artificial insemination to continually improve the overall quality of the cow herd.  In addition, cattle are shown at various local and state levels, with hopes of larger shows in the future."

Thunderstorm Last Night

Alan took everybody's favorite rocker over to the fair and it won a blue ribbon!

And I slept right through it. Guess it was a humdinger though.

The hay elevator broke down at about dark-thirty last night. Alan went up in the mow to fix it and fell in a hole in the hay and jerked his shoulder half out of joint. It popped back in when he got out of the hole, but it hurt a lot. There were only about thirty bales left on the wagon he was unloading and they just left them there. Too dangerous to be doing what they were doing in the dark. We will feed the wet bales up to the young stock or give the cows a treat.....second and third cutting fine mixed grass, clover, and alfalfa. They will like it I think.

If you live in the area make sure to save Saturday the 19th of September for Montgomery County Sundae on the Farm. This year it will take place at Stowdale Farm in St. Johnsville. It is always an amazing event and well worth visiting, if only for the free ice cream sundae.

Another hazy morning

This picture of the water garden was taken a few weeks ago, but it still looks much the same. Hoping for some sunshine later for Sundae on the Farm.
